RECYCLED AND BIODEGRADABLE SOLES
At PBS, sustainability is becoming increasingly central to our operations. We are committed to ensuring full environmental compliance throughout our production cycle. This has led us to choose natural materials and to manufacture soles that are either biodegradable or made from recycled materials.
RECYCLED SOLES
We have been producing recycled soles for over a year and a half. Thanks to the great versatility of microporous material—our primary raw material—we can create any type of sole. What makes these soles unique is that they are composed of scraps of microporous material, mixed and reprocessed. This reduces waste and gives new life to leftover materials from previous productions.
This recycled blend is visible in the texture of the sole, which appears grainy and speckled. Other than that, the recycled sole performs just like a traditional one.
BIODEGRADABLE SOLES
For almost a year, we have also been producing biodegradable soles—a natural choice that aligns with both our ethical principles and growing market demands. After installing a photovoltaic system that allows us to work using clean, solar-powered energy, we saw this new environmental investment as a positive and necessary step forward.
All our soles can be made biodegradable through the use of a special additive. When the shoe is buried in a bacteria-rich environment, this substance activates microbes that begin to break down the microporous material, transforming it into organic matter within five years. It’s important to note that this process is triggered only when the sole is placed in a biologically active setting.
In general, recycled or biodegradable soles are not yet widely established in the market and are still underpromoted—even by those who manufacture them. We at PBS have chosen to listen to the growing number of consumers interested in sustainable production and have seized the opportunity to give our business a fresh, eco-conscious boost.
